Public Talk – Dr Peter McQuillan

13 May 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Rain Moths and other moths

Public talk by Dr Peter McQuillan from University of Tasmania.  With a background in insect ecology, Dr McQuillan has explored important plant-insect interactions including pollination and herbivory, invasive species management and the biogeography of insects. He is interested in invertebrates as indicators of environmental change in natural environments, and cities and farms.

There has been enormous interest shown in Rain Moths and other moths on two Facebook sites (Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges NRM Board and also Bugs n Slugs). Gerry Butler (BCSA Chairman) asked Peter to give an impromptu presentation using Zoom. Peter will talk about Rain Moths and the Hepialid Family of moths and the variety of moths that emerge in Autumn.

Below is a montage of a few moths which are often seen near lights in Williamstown during autumn.
