Are you interested in finding out what critters live in the fenced-off grassy area in the middle of Victoria Park? This area is known as the Victoria Park Pakapakanthi Grasslands and contains habitat for the rare Chequered Copper Butterfly.
You’re invited to join experts and volunteers on a Grasslands Field Trip to discover what lives here in Autumn!
This area protects an endangered ecological community of remnant Grey Box Grassy Woodland, which is looked after by the City of Adelaide’s Biodiversity team. Butterfly Conservation SA (BSCA) volunteers also help to look after this area and regularly monitor the area for critters – especially the rare Chequered Copper Butterfly!
Learning what lives in an area helps build connection to that place, as well as helping to build an understanding of what species come out to play in different seasons. Spend a few hours on a field trip with us and you’ll learn a thing or two – like how to ID grasses, hang out with spiders and find out what and where the ant highway is!
